SPRING: Turn on water to irrigation system and visually inspect plumbing and backflow valve. Activate controller, set watering schedule, and test all valves in system. Inspect and adjust system for proper coverage and distribution. Trim sod from around heads as needed.
FALL: Turn water off to irrigation system, drain inside pipes and vacuum breaker. Deactivate controller and valve. Remove battery if solid state controller. Blow all lines free of water with compressed air if applicable. Open all manual drains and faucets if applicable.
A poorly maintained irrigation system means that much of this water never reaches its intended source and is lost to runoff, evaporation and deep watering below the root zone.
Maintaining irrigation systems is one most effective ways to reduce wasted water, reduce pollution from run-off and over-irrigation, and improve plant health by applying the correct amount of water where it can be utilized by the landscape.
